Mehbooba Mufti Visits Uri, Calls for Strengthening of Ceasefire to Prevent Further Human Suffering![]() Uri (J&K), 11 May 2025: The President of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, visited the border town of Uri today to assess the situation on the ground following recent escalations in the region. Uri, once regarded as a symbol of regional connectivity and economic promise, now lies in a state of desolation. During her visit, Ms. Mufti conveyed deep concern over the situation in Uri, a region long envisioned as a symbol of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Following her visit, Ms Mufti issued the following statement, "Once a vibrant town, now eerily quiet, like a ghost town. Its streets are empty, its people displaced, many injured and in hospitals, families crammed into shelters, with no place left to call home. Uri, once envisioned as a gateway to peace and a hub of economic activity, now lies in ruins. One can only hope that the fragile ceasefire is upheld and strengthened by both India and Pakistan, so that such human suffering is never repeated." Ms Mufti’s remarks underline the pressing need for continued dialogue, adherence to ceasefire agreements, and focused humanitarian relief to ensure the wellbeing of affected populations. |
