Hon’ble CEC Reviews Preparations at Agling Gonpa Ahead of Visit by His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche




Leh, 2 May 2025: The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, today visited Agling Gonpa to assess the ongoing preparations in anticipation of the upcoming visit of His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche.

Accompanying the Hon’ble CEC during the inspection were the Hon’ble Councillor of Phyang Constituency, Mr Tundup Norbu; Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, Mr Dorjey Gyatso; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Leh, Mr Stanzin Rabgais; and other concerned officials. The visit was conducted to ensure readiness for the forthcoming three-day spiritual programme, set to commence on 3 May.

During the inspection, the Hon’ble CEC took stock of all critical arrangements, including the designated site for the installation of the grand thangka, seating provisions for devotees and dignitaries, traffic regulation mechanisms, sanitation and public convenience facilities, and the overall preparedness of the venue. He reiterated the need for seamless coordination among departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the sacred events.

The Hon’ble CEC also interacted with Drubwang Konchok Tharchin Rinpoche, members of the organising committee, and monks from the monastery, commending their efforts and seeking inputs to address any pending logistical requirements.

His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche is scheduled to arrive on 3 May to bless the thangka and stupa, and to offer long life prayers. The spiritual programme will continue on 4 May with the Drigung Phowa Chenmo and Amitayus Empowerment. On 5 May, the concluding day, the event will feature Vajra dances, Chöd practice, and the ceremonial unveiling of a majestic 15-metre thangka, symbolising a rare and auspicious spiritual occasion.

The inspection reaffirmed the LAHDC’s commitment to facilitating important religious and cultural events while ensuring the comfort, safety, and participation of the wider community.
