Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhdeve Distributes Archery Equipment at Government School Likir![]() Likir, 5 May 2025: In a significant step towards promoting sports and co-curricular engagement, the Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Mr Santosh Sukhdeve, today visited Government School Likir to distribute archery equipment, honouring a commitment made during an earlier visit on 3 May 2025. The event was conducted with the support of the District Youth Services and Sports Department. The occasion witnessed participation from key stakeholders, including the Honourable Councillor of Saspol Constituency Mr Smanla Dorjey, Chief Planning Officer Mr Tsewang Gyalson, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Mr Tsering Tashi, the Namberdar, former Sarpanch, and the President of the Youth Society Lukhil Gonyul Thundel Tsogspa Likir. Deputy Commissioner Sukhdeve took the opportunity to felicitate the parents of two girls from the village who had recently excelled in a district-level archery competition. In his address, he encouraged both students and parents to make optimum use of the newly provided equipment. Emphasising the importance of co-curricular activities, he spoke on the responsible use of technology and highlighted the growing potential of government schools due to improved infrastructure and the availability of qualified educators. He also welcomed the villagers of Likir to access and benefit from the archery facilities. Councillor Smanla Dorjey brought to attention the ongoing transportation difficulties faced by students residing in the extended 7-kilometre expanse of the village. He formally requested the provision of a school bus to enhance accessibility and improve school enrolment. Additionally, he proposed the organisation of an archery training camp for both students and villagers to help foster local talent and create opportunities for growth. In response, Deputy Commissioner Sukhdeve assured that the demand for a school bus would be incorporated into the upcoming district plan. He also instructed the District Youth Services and Sports Officer to examine the feasibility of hosting an archery training camp in the near future. Chief Planning Officer Mr Tsewang Gyalson delivered an inspiring address, urging students to remain committed to their aspirations and work diligently toward achieving their goals. The event served as a testament to the District Administration’s continued commitment to enhancing educational and athletic opportunities, and to nurturing the overall development of youth and communities across the region. |
